Micro-judgements and A Course in Miracles

judgements and a course in miracles

When we examine our day-to-day thoughts and words, we may be surprised by the sheer number of micro-judgements we make. From deciding which foods are "good" or "bad" for us, to assessing whether someone "deserves" a certain outcome, our minds are constantly sorting the world into categories of worthiness.

A Course in Miracles teaches that this habit of judgment is at the root of much of our suffering. By letting go of the need to label experiences as "good" or "bad," we open ourselves up to a more peaceful, accepting worldview.

The course encourages students to practice looking at even the simplest choices without the overlay of moral judgment. Is this food inherently "good for me" or "bad for me," or is it simply neutral sustenance? Do I deem this person worthy of my time and attention, or not? These micro-judgments, when examined, reveal the extent to which we're always assessing our experiences through a filter of worth and worthiness.

By developing awareness of these micro-judgments, we can begin to recognize patterns in our thinking and decision-making processes. This heightened self-awareness can lead to more conscious choices and a deeper understanding of personal biases and preconceptions.

For instance, constantly evaluating experiences as "good" or "bad" can create unnecessary stress and limit our ability to fully engage with the present moment. By learning to observe without immediate judgment, we may find ourselves more open to new experiences and perspectives. The practice of suspending these micro assessments can enhance empathy and communication skills. When we approach others without preconceived notions of their worth, we're more likely to listen actively and respond authentically. This can lead to more meaningful connections and a greater sense of community.

Learning to meet each moment with an attitude of openness and neutrality can be profoundly liberating. It allows us to handle the ups and downs of daily life with greater ease, rather than getting caught up in constant evaluation of what "should" or "shouldn't" be. This is the heart of the Course's transformative teachings on judgment and discernment.

Ultimately, the goal is to become more aware of when and how we're making these micro-judgements and A Course in Miracles. With practice, we can learn to observe our thoughts and words with a more compassionate, non-judgmental stance, allowing us to approach each moment with greater ease and presence.
