“Seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world.” (T-21.In.1:7)

At first, it may sound like resignation, as if the Course is asking us to accept things as they are. But in truth, it’s a call to empowerment.

The Trap of Trying to Change the World

The ego constantly tells us that peace will come when external circumstances are different:

  • When others behave more lovingly.

  • When our job, health, or finances improve.

  • When the political or social landscape aligns with our preferences.

But even if we succeed in changing outer conditions, the peace is temporary. Something else will arise to disturb us again. By seeking to change the world, we remain trapped in a cycle of striving, fixing, and disappointment.

The Power of Choosing Again

The Course reminds us that the world we see is a projection of our mind’s thoughts. The real problem is not “out there” but in our perception. When we choose to change our mind — to shift from fear to love, from judgment to forgiveness — we experience a new world without having altered a single external fact.

  • The colleague we resented becomes a teacher of patience.

  • A challenging situation becomes an opportunity to trust.

  • What once felt like an attack becomes a call for love.

This is the miracle: a shift in perception that restores peace where the ego saw conflict.

Living the Teaching

Changing your mind about the world doesn’t mean ignoring injustice or denying pain. It means approaching all situations from a different inner place. From love, rather than fear. From unity, rather than separation.

When we respond from peace, our actions naturally become more inspired, compassionate, and effective. Ironically, this is how the world actually does change — not because we tried to force it, but because we allowed our perception to be healed.

The Invitation Today

Next time you find yourself wishing someone or something were different, pause and remember:

The power is not in rearranging the outer world. The power is in choosing again — to see through love’s eyes.

In that moment, you are no longer a victim of the world you see. You are its light.
